Auction.com Chairman and Co-Founder Rob Friedman Recognized by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County

IRVINE, Calif. – October 20, 2014 – Rob Friedman, chairman and co-founder of Auction.com, LLC, the nation’s leading online real estate marketplace, will be presented with the Joel K. Rubenstein Award from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, a nonprofit organization that provides children facing adversity with professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships to change their lives for the better, at the organization’s 50th Annual “Gourmet Dinner” black-tie gala. The award is presented to those that have demonstrated loyal and profound passion for Big Brothers Big Sisters and made a lasting and permanent impact on the organization.

Friedman has been a board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County for 25 years and has made profound contributions, along with Auction.com, to the organization including a substantial donation for a new building to further extend its mentorship services.

“Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County and Auction.com both understand the significant importance of mentorship and how it can drastically change the lives of our youth,” said Friedman. “The mentors I’ve had throughout my life have made a major impact on what I do today at Auction.com. With this donation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County can give more children of all backgrounds quality mentorship to realize their potential and build their own future.” In addition to his recent donation, Friedman has been the principal funder of the organization’s “Big” recruitment campaign, which aims to find dynamic and committed male volunteers for male “Littles,” one of the largest needs of the organization.

“In the 30 years that I’ve been blessed to call Rob my friend and business partner, I’ve been inspired by both his wisdom and generosity – qualities that are critical to the important work Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County is doing in their mission to leave a lasting and positive impression on the children of our community,” said Jeff Frieden, CEO and co-founder of Auction.com. “I know the entire Auction.com Family joins me in congratulating Rob on this well-deserved recognition, and in gratitude for the example he sets for us all every day.”

The gala will take place at the Balboa Bay Resort, located at 1221 West Coast Highway, on Thursday, Oct. 23, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

About Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County:
For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. Most children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters live in single-parent and low-income families, or households where a parent is incarcerated. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”). Providing a system of ongoing evaluation and support, Big Brothers Big Sisters is proven by independent studies to help families by improving the odds that “Littles” will perform better in school and avoid violence and illegal activities, and have stronger relationships with their parents and others. Headquartered in Dallas with a network of nearly 400 agencies across the country, Big Brothers Big Sisters serves a quarter million children annually. In 2013, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County served over 2,200 children. For more information, visit www.bigbrooc.org.
